Sign & Symptoms of Diabetes in Women

While men have their quota of specific symptoms of diabetes, so do women, and it’s very important that they know those symptoms so that they can spot, diagnose and treat them in time. For instance, knowing the symptoms of gestational diabetes, a form of diabetes that develops during pregnancy and diabetes resulting from PCOS is highly important for women. These are generic symptoms of diabetes:

  • Increased appetite and losing weight- occurs although people eat enough and blood sugars are high as the cells cannot take this glucose and this lack of energy makes a person feel hungry
  • Increased thirst, urination – occurs because the excess sugar leaks into urine through the kidneys and pulls extra water along dehydrating your body
  • Tiredness, lack of interest and concentration
  • Tingling sensation or numbness or pain in the hands or feet (type 2)
  • Blurred vision
  • Itching and infections around the genital areas of men and women
  • Slow wound healing
  • Vomiting and stomach pain
  • Urinating often
  • Feeling very thirsty
  • Feeling very hungry – even with regular food consumption
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Blurry vision
  • Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal
  • Weight loss – even though you are eating more (type 1)
  • Tingling, pain, or numbness in the hands/feet (type 2)

In women, diabetes can produce symptoms such as:

  • Vaginal yeast infections
    • Soreness, itching, reddening of skin with white vaginal discharge
    • White curd like appearance around the skin
    • Pain during intercourse
  • Sexual dysfunction
    • Reduced or no sex drive
    • Difficulty in arousal and achieving orgasm
    • Lack of proper lubrication causes pain or discomfort during intercourse
